Help for families

Family Lives offers a free confidential helpline run by trained professionals. They also have plenty of really useful information about all aspects of bringing up children and young people. Call 0808 800 2222 – it is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  

If you are feeling isolated or having a difficult time and have a child under 5, you may be able to get some free support from Home-Start Trafford and Salford. This service visits families in their own home to offer friendship, practical assistance and support to parents. Call them on 0161 865 4222.

Having problems with your child? Extra help is available to certain families through the Family Support service - though you must be referred by a professional, such as a school or health visitor. Once accepted, the team can provide support on issues such as behaviour management, and housing and debt problems.

Help for children with disabilities or special needs

A range of support is available to disabled children and their families in Salford. This includes benefits, childcare, travel and occupational therapy.

Some children may need different or special arrangements to help them in school. Salford provide a Parent Partnership Service to help parents or carers of children with special educational needs to get the best out of educational, council and health services - helping them understand the process and deal with issues that are important to them.
