Are you at risk of developing diabetes? Find out in 2 easy steps

Diabetes finger11.5 million people in the UK are at high risk of getting Type 2 diabetes. The numbers are increasing each year.

Your chances increase with age, being overweight and having a close relative with diabetes.

You can reduce your risk, but first you need to know what it is.

The simple diabetes self-assessment below will tell you if you are at higher risk. It's been designed by researchers and clinicians. If your result is 'moderate' or 'increased' then you should arrange for a free pin-prick test to tell you more.

Step 1: Find out your risk - take the diabetes self-assessment by pressing 'start' in the box below

  • On the ethnicity question you can read "white European" as simply "white".
  • You need to know your BMI (body mass index). You will be provided with a link to follow in the quiz to calculate this.

Step 2: If you scored 'moderate' or 'high', make an appointment now

The good news is that you don't need to go to your GPs. Diabetes champions are in your neighbourhood offering advice and free, quick and simple pin-prick tests that will show your risk.

You can make an appointment straight away - call  0800 952 1000 or complete this form and a member of our team will be in touch.

To be eligible for the test, you must be over 30 years old and be registered with a GP in Salford.
